The UK's population is growing, our building rate - while improving - is not keeping up with demand, and the number of people per household is falling due to a rise in divorce and fewer families choosing to live intergenerationally.

Why is the North East a great place to invest?

The obvious point is that the cost of living in the North East is significantly lower than London and other cities. When it comes to residential properties, house prices in the North East are 40% less than the UK average, and you will find a wide range of properties and locations to choose from. Newcastle is the cheapest major city for property in England, according to Hometrack. They say that the current average price in Newcastle is £128,100. That represents a 3.5% rise over the last year and a 17.7% rise over the last decade. However. there might not always be such cheap property in Newcastle though. This report forecasts that Newcastle prices will rise by four times that of London – around 18% – over the next few years.

Aside from house prices, It’s no exaggeration to say that the North East has an abundant of leisure and cultural scenes. The Quayside area of Newcastle has been extensively regenerated – the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage music venue are located here (actually in Gateshead). And there is commitment - A £92m investment programme into the Newcastle and Gateshead's 80 hectares Accelerated Development Zone is stimulating business and job growth making the region a great place to invest in property. The neighbouring city of Sunderland is also undergoing significant investment. The 3,6,9 Vision is a major strategy to help bring Sunderland in line with the Northern Powerhouse initiative by investing £1.5bn into the city across a number of sites. This investment is set to bolster Sunderland’s economic growth by contributing to the creation of 20,000 new jobs.
